Derby Gisclair, a local historian who frequently speaks at the Jefferson Parish Library, will give a presentation titled “Epidemics That Shaped New Orleans,” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W.

Adult Basic Education Class
Build your reading, writing, and math skills for workforce success and high school equivalency (HiSET/GED) preparation. Open to adults of all skill levels.

Open sewing time with the Jefferson Parish sewing group. This meeting is not instructional, but questions are always welcome. 

Come garden with your neighbors and librarians as we work on our very first Community Garden! Learn what to grow and how to tend a vegetable and flower garden during this informal work hour. Open to all ages and experience levels. 

Maybe Book Club – The members of the book club have moved the event to 1:30 p.m. on the third Friday of each month. The following books will be read and discussed.

Join us for Chess Club! We welcome amateurs, novices, and dabblers of chess, who would like to play in a semi-competitive and/or social environment. No registration is required. We have chess sets and clocks available on a first-come basis.

The purpose of the group is to encourage local writers to create works of fiction - novels, novellas, short stories, flash fiction, etc. Writers submit manuscripts to be critiqued by other group members.

Introduction to sitting and walking Zen meditation. Please bring a cushion to sit on.

NOSHA was formed to provide an opportunity for like-minded people to meet and exchange ideas and to promote awareness of Secular Humanist viewpoints in the community.  The group strives to make the public aware of the importance of separation

Though technically open to the public, this event is meant to be a practice session before the actual concert at 2 p.m. later this same day.

The Science Book Club meets monthly in the A/V Conference room at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

Adult Literacy – YMCA Literary Services will hold adult literacy classes from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Belle Terre Library, 5550 Belle Terre Road.

Monday Knitters meets from 1 to 3 p.m. each Monday. Bev Madere, Craft Yarn Council of America Master Knitter, facilitates this group of adult knitters. All level of skills welcomed; basic knitting skills taught to beginners.

Pam Ebel returns with a series of four classes that serve as a continuation of her popular course on writing and marketing the short story.

First Hour taught in Spanish; Second Hour taught in English.

The New Neighbor Project will offer a series of in-person English as a Second Language classes. English as a second or foreign language is a language education program for people learning English.

This event will consist of an hour of one on one VR experience (only one person can register per session). This event is for adults, teens, and children ages 10 years old and up.

Always wanted to learn the ukulele? Now’s your chance! Join us for a free, beginner-friendly ukulele class designed for adults. Learn basic chords, strumming patterns, and simple songs in a relaxed, supportive setting.

In this class you will learn basic watercolor skills and complete a painting in one and a half hour. Step by step instructions will be given. Art supplies are provided or bring your own supplies. Registration is required.
