Steve Scaffidi, a writer, filmmaker and local bon vivant, will discuss his new book Life in 18 Holes, Official Scorecard, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Scaffidi’s book asks “Think about your round of life and reflect on your personal scorecard. Think about your own story, your family, your friends. Think about each hole you played in the past and will play down the road. I know I have a great story, but I also know that you have one too.”
He says the real eye-opener happens when people reflect back on their lives and realize just how fast time goes by.
From his website: “When you realize that life expectancy in the United States is approximately 80 years, then every hole on the front nine is four years of your life, and on the back nine each hole is five years. When you eventually putt out on the 18th hole, if you're fortunate to finish your round, you are now 81 years old and heading to the clubhouse (19th Hole) to meet friends, and enjoy a beverage of your choice.”
The book provides a template that describes his own 18 holes and can be used as a guide for readers.
Steve Scaffidi is an award-winning filmmaker and founder of his production company, Ghost Rider Pictures. His first documentary feature film, "The People's Story,” was a winner at the New York and Telluride Film Festivals and also a finalist for the 2000 Academy Awards. He has produced many other films and television shows including: "Execution," "Forgotten on the Bayou: Rockey's Mission to the White House," "Hit Me America," "First Date," which was purchased by New Line Television, and "Timmy's Travels," produced for Southwest Airlines and the Discovery Network.
Scaffidi's book, "Ain't Dat Super!” was released the year after the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl and became one of the most successful locally-produced stage productions, drawing more than 5,000 people on opening weekend. Scaffidi is also the creator and author of "Hey Papa Dude!," a series of adventure stories for kids, now in distribution across America and the United Kingdom.
