Event Details

Armand H. Bertin Sr. talks about his new book “My Life in the Quarter – Mystery, Merriment and Memories” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

Bertin writes about being born and raised in the Quarter during the 1950s where he says his passion for reading and writing were nurtured by his senior English class instructor Brother Colin, SC, at Cor Jesu High School.

The book includes stories about: Ruthie the Duck Lady and her trained ducks; Richard Simmons the exercise guru; Angelo Brocato and his gelato; Cupid Doll Linda Brigette; Cosimo Matassa who recorded legends such as Fats Domino; Father Thomas the Terminator; Dan the original neighborhood watch man, Henriette DeLille (his landlord); legendary vampire Jacques St. Germain, Elvis and Morgus and Magnificent.

Bertin says: “If you have never visited the Quarter, I am sure you have your own stories. If you have never visited, put it on your bucket list and live your own stories.”
