Event Details

Peggy Sweeney-McDonald will discuss her new book Grief, Caregiving and Pink Cloud Moments at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 28, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

When Peggy Sweeney-McDonald’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she returned home to Louisiana with her husband to move in with her parents. What began as a temporary plan became a profound homecoming — a journey of caregiving, surrender, and rediscovering grace.

Her family entered what she calls “the A-Zone” — a sacred path through illness, grief, laughter, and unexpected beauty. Through vivid storytelling and Southern warmth, Sweeney-McDonald captures both the heartbreak and the special moments that defined her mother’s final years.

Peggy Sweeney-McDonald is a Louisiana-born storyteller, actress, and creative producer. She is the creator and host of the Life in the A-Zone podcast, inspired by her bittersweet journey of caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s, which has been downloaded in more than 30 countries. Sweeney-McDonald is also the author of Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde… Life Stories About Food and the creator of Pink Cloud Moments, a collection of journals that celebrate grace, creativity, and the beauty of everyday life. She lives in Baton Rouge with her husband and her 90-year-old father.
