Event Details

The Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) is launching a new initiative to enhance pet safety across the parish with the unveiling of the first of seven Pet Microchip Scanning Stations on Thursday, March 6 at 11 a.m. The first installation will be located at the East Bank Regional Library. JPAWS will offer free microchipping services to pets, provided by their professional veterinary staff, on March 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or while supplies last. The event will take place near the front entrance of the library.

The microchip scanning stations are part of a broader plan to expand pet safety resources across Jefferson Parish. With six more stations planned in the coming months, these stations will provide public access to technology that can identify microchipped pets in real-time, helping animal shelters and residents quickly locate lost animals.

JPAWS encourages all local pet owners to attend the event at the East Bank Regional Library and take advantage of this opportunity to have their pets microchipped for free. In addition to the free microchipping, JPAWS staff will be available to answer questions and provide guidance on responsible pet ownership. JPAWS wants to remind residents that abandoning an animal is a crime punishable by a fine of $500. To report an animal control incident, please call JPAWS at 504-349-5536 or 504-554-4744.
