The New Orleans chapter of the Women’s National Book Association and the Jefferson Parish Library have joined together to present “Voices of Hurricane Katrina,” a public reading in which local authors read and discuss Katrina memories, at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 30 at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

This event is open to the public. It is free of charge. Library patrons are invited to read their own stories regarding their Katrina experiences.

This event commemorates the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

The moderator is K.N. Crighton, author of How Lonely Sits the City, a novel set in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in which journalist Maggie McBride and her housekeeper Eloise Jackson find themselves living in the empty city in a time nothing has prepared them for. The book deals with issues of race, loss, betrayal, faith and love.

Crighton serves as minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Currently serving as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans.
