Diane Schleifstein, the immediate past president of the Friends of the Jefferson Public Library, will lead a series of five classes of mah-jong at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

The sessions will occur in the Jefferson Room at the following times and dates.

  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16.
  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23.
  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30.
  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6.
  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Each class is free of charge and is open to the public. There is no registration. 

Mah-jong is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. It is commonly played by four players. Mah-jong is a game of skill, strategy, and luck.
